Baccarat

History
Baccarat is also a card game played at casino and just like many casino games Baccarat's history is also not accurately known.
The word Baraccat means "Zero" in Italian. It is believed to be invented by an Italian gambler Felix Falguierein.
Later, the baccarat was introduced in France around 1490 A.D. and remained an exclusive game to the French nobility for some time before becoming a casino game.

Rules

Baccarat is played from a six-deck or an eight-deck shoe. All face cards and 10s have no value. Cards less than 10 are counted at face value, Aces are worth 1. Suits don't matter. Only single digit values are valid. Any count that reaches a double digit drops the left digit. 15 is counted as 5 and 25 is also counted as 5.
To start, the players bet either on Banco or Punto or Standoff. The card dealer gives two cards each; first to the player and then the banker. The object of the game is to bet on the hand that you think will have the highest total value.
A third card may be dealt to either or both the player (Punto) and the bank (Banco) based on the following three-card-rules. It is not necessary to learn these rules to play, they are compulsory decisions and therefore automatic. Only on rare occasions a mistake is made:
Player's third-card-rule
  • If either the player or the bank have a total of 8 or 9 on the first two cards no further cards are drawn. The resulting hand is called a natural and the hand is over.
  • If the player's total is less than or equal to 5 the player's hand draws a third card.
  • If the player does not draw a third card, then the bank's hand stands on 6 or more and takes a third card on a total of 5 or less. If the player does take a third card then the Bank's third-card-rule below will determine if the bank takes a third card.
Bank's third-card-rule
  • If the bank's total is 2 or less then bank draws a card, regardless of what the players third card is.
  • If the banks total is 3 then the bank draws a third card unless the players third card was an 8.
  • If the banks total is 4 then the bank draws a third card unless the players third card was a 0, 1, 8, or 9.
  • If the banks total is 5 then the bank draws a third card if the players third card was 4, 5, 6, or 7.
  • If the banks total is 6 then the bank draws a third card if the players third card was a 6 or 7.
  • If the banks total is 7 then the bank stands.
House advantage
Banker (Banco) 1.17%
Player (Punto) 1.36%
Tie (Standoff) 14.12% at 8:1 payout

Blackjack

History

Black-Jack also known as Twenty one is a card game. Origin of BlackJack is not really known to historians but one thing is for sure that it was popular centuries back too.
Some historians believe it was played in 17th century in France and was called "Vingt En Un" which means 21 when translated from french. In Vingt En Un, there is a special French name given to a hand of Jack and ace of spades. This hand is the most ideal that could come up and thus it was given a special name. When the French name is translated in English, it means black jack.
Blackjack began to spreadout in North America after french revolution and became very popular among American since there was no rules to gambling and it was not prohibited.
During 19th century it was one of the most played casino games in America.
Now if you visit Las Vegas , not a single casino would be without blackjack or you will rarely find the black jack table empty.

Basic Rules

  • The goal of blackjack is to beat the dealer's hand without going over 21.
  • Face cards are worth 10. Aces are worth 1 or 11, whichever makes a better hand.
  • Each player starts with two cards, one of the dealer's cards is hidden until the end.
  • To 'Hit' is to ask for another card. To 'Stand' is to hold your total and end your turn.
  • If you go over 21 you bust, and the dealer wins regardless of the dealer's hand.
  • If you are dealt 21 from the start (Ace & 10), you got a blackjack.
  • Blackjack usually means you win 1.5 the amount of your bet. Depends on the casino.
  • Dealer will hit until his/her cards total 17 or higher.
  • Doubling is like a hit, only the bet is doubled and you only get one more card.
  • Split can be done when you have two of the same card - the pair is split into two hands.
  • Splitting also doubles the bet, because each new hand is worth the original bet.
  • You can only double/split on the first move, or first move of a hand created by a split.
  • You cannot play on two aces after they are split.
  • You can double on a hand resulting from a split, tripling or quadrupling you bet.

Video Poker

Video Poker is a poker game based on 5-card draw poker and is played on a console  which is similar to slot machine. Some of the first Video poker machines were made in 1970s because of technological advancement when it became possible to combine a monitor with a CPU.
One of the main reasons for the popularity of Video poker is ofcourse the fact that by the 1970s Poker was  already very famous hence people tried Video poker too and it became famous too as people found he devices less intimidating than playing table games.

The rules of Video Poker are just same as Poker. The player inserts money or a barcoded paper ticket into the machine and places the bet and starts the game . The cards are distributed and can be seen on the screen.

Poker

Poker is believed to be invented centuries back but it was not the poker we play today , it had different rules and principles.
Some records tell that a game similar to poker was invented before 969 ad by Chinese and emperor Mu-Tsung used to play domino cards with his wife on new year.
A spanish game invented in 16th century called "Primero" is referred to as "Mother of Poker" as it is the first confirmed version of a game directly related to modern day poker.
In 1834, Jonathan H. Green made one of the earliest written references to poker when in his writing he mentions rules to the "cheating game," being played on Mississippi riverboats.
During the period 1865- 1895 which is knows as Wild West period of United states , poker was very famous and was played in almost every salon and all across town.

Outline of how it is played.
  • Poker is usually a card game which involves betting and can be played with 2-20 players.
  • Initially the player places a bet at the start of game as required by the game being played by placing some of their chips in the pot.
  • The deal distributes the cards among the players.
  • Players can have a look on their own cards and can raise the bet by placing extra chips in the pot.  All other players must then either put in chips to bring their contribution to the pot to at least an equal amount or fold, discarding their cards and abandoning any chips they have so far contributed to the pot.
  • When all the players have contributed an equal amount in the pot , the betting ends. According to the variant being played, further cards may be dealt or players may have an opportunity to exchange some cards, after which there is another betting round, and so on.
  •  At the end last betting round , there is a showdown where all the players show their cards and the player with the best 5 - card hand takes all the chips in the pot.
Ranking of cards
Straight Flush
Five consecutive cards of the same suit. Ace can be counted as high to make the highest type of Straight Flush, which is A-K-Q-J-10 of a suit, sometimes known as a Royal Flush. Ace can be low to make (5-4-3-2-A), but not high and low at the same time (for example 2-A-K-Q-J is not valid).
Four of a Kind
Four cards of the same rank and one other card, such as 9-9-9-9-Q. Four of a kind are sometimes known as quads or in some non-English speaking countries as a poker. The odd card - the queen in the example - is called the kicker.
Full House
Three cards of the same rank plus a pair of cards of another rank, such as 5-5-5-K-K, which would be described as "fives full of kings". A full house is sometimes known as a boat.
Flush
A flush consists of five cards of the same suit (not all consecutive, otherwise it would be a straight flush).
Straight
Five cards of consecutive ranks, not all of the same suit. The highest is A-K-Q-J-10 and an Ace can instead be counted as low to make the lowest straight 5-4-3-2-A, which is sometimes called a wheel. An Ace cannot be in the interior of a straight - for example 4-3-2-A-K is not a straight.
Three of a Kind
Three cards of the same rank and two cards of different ranks - for example 7-7-7-10-6. This is sometimes known as a triplet or trips.
Two Pair
Two cards of one rank, two cards of a second rank and one card of a third rank (the kicker) - for example J-J-3-3-8.
Pair
Two cards of equal rank and three cards of different ranks - for example Q-Q-A-8-7.
Nothing
A hand which does not fit any of the categories above, commonly known as High Card or sometimes No Pair. That is: five cards of different ranks, not all consecutive and not all the same suit.
